Аналізуються погляди письменника на літературу загалом і власні твори зокрема. Зачеплено
питання зв'язку художньої творчості з реальністю, з особливостями розвитку літературного
процесу в умовах ідеологічної заблокованості, залежності таланту від культурних традицій
народу та специфіки його індивідуального обдаровання.
The essay deals with Oles Honchar’s works interpreted in the light of the writer’s own memoirs. It
analyzes Honchar’s views on literature in general and his own novels in particular. The researcher
considers the issues of relations between reality and literary work, the features of literary process in
conditions of ideological blockage, dependence of a talent on cultural traditions of the people and
specificity of individual endowments.
Attention is paid to the functions of the main writer’s works and their place in Ukrainian literary process
and ideological disputes of the time (“Modry Stone”, “Standard-bearers”, “Man and Weapons”, “For a
Moment of Happiness”, “Tronka”, “Cathedral”, “Your star”, “Cyclone”, “Distant Fires”, “Reflections of a
Writer”, “Things We Live For”). In particular, the essay offers an attempt to reveal the cause of political
debate around the story “Modry Stone” and the novel “Cathedral”, in which the writer showed his
search for new stylistic means. The author discusses the interests of Honchar as a writer and a critiс,
his views on the poetics of creativity, the tasks of literature under conditions of dictatorial regimes,
Ukrainian independence and international cooperation of creative personalities.
