До питання про дату народження та родовід М.К. Чалого

Abstract

У статті досліджується дата народження першого біографа Т. Шевченка Михайла Чалого. Акцентується увага на помилці, яка виникла відразу по смерті, а пізніше стала поширюватися в довідниках та біографічних довідках. Проаналізовані метричні книги церков Новгорода-Сіверського, формулярний список М. Чалого та друковані джерела про педагога з метою встановлення справжньої дати народження. Зазначено, що краєзнавці зробили декілька невдалих спроб виправити помилку та змінити існуючий стан речей. Уперше приділено детальну увагу родоводу Чалого та найбільш близькому родинному оточенню. Запропоновано версію щодо встановлення персоналій, зображених на двох полотнах відомого українського художника І. Сошенка під назвою «Портрет бабусі Чалого», що зберігаються у Національному художньому музеї України. Окрема увага приділена заповіту другої дружини – Лідії Едуардівни, який, імовірно, був сформульований самим М.К. Чалим. М.К. Чалий не мав прямих нащадків, але його значний творчий доробок, зібрана та опублікована шевченкіана, біографії сучасників (К. Ушинського, П. Куліша, А. Дикого, І. Сошенка та ін.), яскраві автобіографічні спогади – усе це назавжди увійшло у скарбницю національної історико-культурної спадщини.

The article examines the birth date of the first T. Shevchenko biographer Mykhailo Chali. Attention is emphasized on the error that occurred immediately after death, and later began to spread in directories and biographical references. The metric books of the Novhorod-Siversky churches, the formulary list of M. Chali true date of birth. Several attempts were made among local historians to fix the situation, but they did not change the situation. For the first time, detailed attention was paid to the pedigree of Chali and the closest family environment. A version of the famous Ukrainian artist Ivan Soshenko two portraits entitled «Portrait of Chaly’s Grandmother» is offered. The paintings are stored in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, have not yet been studied in detail. An attempt was made to investigate who exactly from Mykhailo Chalyi female environment could be depicted in the picture: the first wife, grandmother, mother. Special attention in the article is paid to the will of the second wife – Lidia Eduardovna. The document was drawn up by his wife, and probably formulated by Mikhail Korniiovych Chali himself. This assumption follows from the document text. The main point of this will is the order to arrange in the city the 4th grade higher primary school named after M.K. Chali. For the implementation of this he bequeaths 20,000 rubles to the city public administration of Novhorod- Siversky, Chernihiv province, while emphasizing that the estate for the said school should be bought in an area populated mainly by Christians. Mykhailo Korniiovych Chali left no direct descendants. But his significant creative work; collected and published biography of Shevchenko; biographies of contemporaries – K. Ushinsky, P. Kulish, A. Dyky, I. Soshenko and others; vivid autobiographical memories will forever remain in the memory of conscious Ukrainian society. M. Chaly’s personality, his pedagogical and literary activity, the collected archive need worthy attention and further scientific elaboration.
