The development of economic and political cooperation with China is an important factor in the IRP
foreign policy toward Central Asia in the period 1999 – 2008 years. In view of the sanctions imposed against the
IRP in 1998, China has become the main trading partner of Pakistan. In addition to investing in the economy of
Pakistan, China actively participated in the implementation of major transportation projects that affect the
interests of Central Asian states. During the period, China saw the prospect of Pakistan's trading range in the
short term and the energy corridor in the long term. Energy needs of China's economy in the short term, were
decided by the Central Asian states. China has sought to maintain Central Asian states as a stable strategic rear
and treated them as potential energy suppliers and partners in other areas of the economy. Pakistan instead of
granting rights to the Chinese side for the transit through its territory for use to get transport links connecting it
with the Central Asia, which allows to realize the energy interests of the IRP in Central Asian region. Due to
Chinese investments there is a modernization of the transport infrastructure of IRP and satisfaction of
Pakistan's energy interests. Pakistan has high hopes for China's help in its confrontation with India.
Cooperation with Pakistan extends China to influence on the geopolitical situation in South Asia. China has
steadily gained momentum for making the competition the U.S.A., Russia, Iran and Turkey in the "great game"
of energy resources of Central Asia.
The influence of the Chinese factor in the direction of foreign policy is becoming a major disturbance to some
expected policy of Pakistan with regard to Central Asia in the period. The clash of economic interests of China
and the IRP in Central region was on the background of economic and political instability in Pakistan. As a
