The transformation period in Ukraine is accompanied by inevitable contradictions and lagging in the development of the adequate political institutions and law basis. As a result, there is a tendency of priority of politics, but not law as regulator of social relations. The law loses not only influence on politics but also own social value in society. It stipulates the necessity of providing political — legal researches in order to find mechanisms that will increase not only efficiency of administrative functions of the state, but also will create a stable legal framework of their functioning. In this article the author examines basic approaches to law and politics and to peculiarities of their correlation in modern times. At the same time the author pays the special attention to research the influence of political factors on the development of the legal system, providing analysis of role and value of legal political science like a new field of
political knowledge. Nowadays there isn’t much discussion in this sphere; therefore this theme is an actual. The legal political science investigates not only influence of political factors on efficiency of the legal system, but also the essence of politics and law in modern terms. It discovers the genesis and socio-political action of law like
a dynamic, political-legal phenomenon. At the same time the legal political science describes a law as a key point of value in society. The author asserts that politics must be based on the principles and civic values of community. They are the rule of law, the democratic principles of government, tolerance, justice, humanism and equality. In
conclusion, the author says that methodological base of legal political science can help to improve legitimacy of public policy, efficiency of legislative process and quality of laws.
