Embryogenesis of the Crimean stone marten (Martes foina rosanovi) is characterized by the pronounced latent stage, which lasts up to March. In this period the embryonic development does not cease but its speed is sharply reduced. The embryos at the stage of blastocysts are arranged in the uterine horns. Each blastocyst is enclosed in a special cavity, enveloped by a modified zona pellucida. The cavity contains acid sulfomucopolysaccharides. These compounds provide for trofic processes and create conditions for the further development of extraembryonic connective tissue. There is a metabolic interconnection between the uterus and germinal complex, in spite of the absence of morphological connection. The structure of corpus luteum in the latent stage is not stable.
