The peculiarities of the work of cultural institutions within the period of the World War II have been reproduced as well as the nature of the socio-political situation of West Ukrainian lands of the mentioned period has been revealed on the ground of the fragments of the criminal case of Andriy Petrenko (1881–1957), the first director of the Ukrainian theatre of the city of Lviv – Lviv opera house (1941–1944).
