In order to investigate the neck muscular adaptations in swimming and diving birds, the 4Kbeam-constructions» (m. biventer cervicis and pars longus m. spinalis cervicis) and «lattice — workb (m. pygmaei) were analysed in 36 species, 7 orders of swimming and diving birds.
A comparison made of the cbeam-constructions» of the long-flying birds (albatroses, gulls) with the diving and swimming species (petrels, Sula, Pelecanoides, Nannopterum harrisi, penguins, cormorants, loons and grebes) shows the decrease or even the reduction of it.
The «Tattice-work) differs in connection with the diving life. It may be very complicated ,(albatroses, penguins, cormorants), simple (Nannopterum harrisi, Sula) or even reduced (grebes).
