Dzieje rodu Hornostajów herbu Hippocentaurus i losy ich archiwów

Abstract

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie historii rusko — litewskiego rodu Hornostajów herbu Hippocentaurus, którego dzieje sięgają od końca XV w., aż do momentu wygaśnięcia rodu w drugiej połowie XVII w. Opisana została także historia twórcy rodowej potęgi — Iwana Ostafijewicza Hornostaja. Podjęto próbę rekonstrukcji losów wytworzonych przez nich archiwów. Artykuł zawiera krótką charakterystykę materiałów archiwalnych rodu, przechowywanych w Archiwum Głównym Akt Dawnych w Warszawie w zespole archiwalnym Archiwum Potockich z Radzynia (numer zespołu 334).

Метою статті є дослідження русько-литовського роду Горностаїв (гербу Гіпоцентавр), який простежується з кінця XV ст. і до часу вгасання роду у другій половині XVII ст. Подано опис діяльності творця могутності цієї родини — Івана Остафійовича Горностая. Стаття містить коротку характеристику матеріалів архіву Горностаїв, які зберігаються у Головному Архіві Давніх Актів у Варшаві в фонді Архіву Потоцьких з Радзиня (№ фонду 334). Докладний опис документів з архівів Горностаїв потребує окремої статті. В історіографії можна знайти велику кількість публікацій, присвячених окремим особам, або цілим родинам. Найчастіше вони стосуються магнатських родів. У цій статті звернена увага на традиційну недооцінку науковцями досліджень середньозаможної шляхти а також важливості їхніх родових архівів. До такої шляхти з упевненістю можна віднести Горностаїв. Менше ніж за сто років з нікому невідомої родини вони стали впливовими діячами, що зажили високої гідності і посад. Були серед них надворні маршалки, воєводи, старости, ротмістри, земські підскарбії. Хоча в історіографії їхня діяльність описана фрагментарно, це не применшує їхньої ролі у політичному і господарчому житті Польщі, України, Литви чи Білорусі. Наголошено, що архів, який вони створили, залишається науково недослідженим на належному рівні. Автор висловлює сподівання, що ця стаття приверне більшу увагу до історії роду Горностаїв, а також спонукатиме до пошуку і досліджень створених ними документів, особливо тих, що знаходяться за межами Польщі.

The goal of this paper is to present the history of Rus’ — Lithuanian Hornostajs family (Hippocentaurus coat of arms), which history started in the early 15th century, until the moment of the extinction of the genus in the 2nd half of the 17thcentury. Also the history of the creator of the family mighty — Ivan Ostafijewicz Hornostaj is being described. They tried to reconstruct fates of archives produced by them. The author analyses the family archival materials, stored in the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw (Poland) in the fund of the Potockis Archive from Radzyn (Fund No. 334). Detailed description of the Hornostajs archives contents requires the additional publication. Historiography numbers a lot of publications about individuals or entire families. In general there are mainly aristocratic families. In this work the author would like to pay attention to the underestimation by the researchers of the moderately rich nobilities, like the Hornostajs, and importance of their family archives. Within one century the Hornostajs from the unknown family became influential high-born people. There were court marshals, province governors, district administrators, cavalry captains and terrestrial treasurers. Despite their activities were described in fragments, it doesn’t reduce the role which they played in the political and economic life of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus. It should be emphasize that their archives remain unexplored at the proper level. The author hopes that this paper will draw attention to the Hornostajs family history as well as enforce search and study of the documents created by the Hornostajs, especially those which are beyond the borders of Poland.
