Микола Костомаров та його місце в українській славістиці

Abstract

У статті висвітлюється образ видатного українського вченого-славіста й суспільно-політичного діяча Миколи Костомарова (1817– 1885). Він стояв біля витоків вітчизняного слов’янознавства доби національного відродження, коли на чільне місце піднімалися проблеми самоідентифікації бездержавних народів Європи. Опанувавши здобутки філософсько-історичної думки епохи просвітництва та початків романтизму, створив україноцентричний проект возз’єднання слов’янських народів на основі культурної, мовної та історичної спільності, поклавши його на ґрунт християнських цінностей свободи, рівності, братства й любові. В умовах імперського переслідування будь-якого вільнодумства потрапив до чорного списку «політично неблагонадійних осіб» і в ньому перебував до кінця життя.

The article covers the image of the prominent Ukrainian scholar-slavist and social-political figure Mykola Kostomarov (1817–1885). He stood at the origins of the national Slavonic studies of the age of national revival, when the problem of self-identification of non-stateless peoples of Europe was raised. Having mastered the achievements of the philosophicalhistorical thought of the epoch of enlightenment and the beginnings of romanticism, he created the Ukrainian-centric project of reuniting Slavic peoples on the basis of cultural, linguistic and historical community, putting it on the ground of the Christian values of freedom, equality, brotherhood and love. In conditions of imperial persecution, any free-thinking fell into the black list of "politically unreliable persons" and was in it until the end of his life.
