Мессианство как мифологема в современной американской литературе

Abstract

Статья посвящена изучению мифологемы «мессия» как одной из основных эсхатологических мифологем современной художественной литературы. Впервые проводится компаративный анализ мифологемы «мессия», что позволяет лучше понять особенности экспликации американской национальной идентичности в литературе. При проведении исследования использовались мифологический и структуралистский подходы, а также герменевтический метод. В статье представлена классификация мессий в произведениях Дона Делилло. Ключевые слова: мессианство, мифологема, Апокалипсис, терроризм.

Стаття присвячена дослідженню міфологеми «месія» як однієї з основних есхатологічних міфологем сучасної художньої літератури. Уперше проводиться компаративний аналіз міфологеми «месія», що дозволяє краще зрозуміти особливості експлікації американської національної ідентичності у літературі. При проведенні дослідження використовувалися міфологічний та структуралістський підходи, а також герменевтичний метод. У статті представлено класифікацію месій у творах Дона Деліло. Ключові слова: месіанство, міфологема, Апокаліпсис, тероризм.

The article is devoted to the study of “the Messiah” mythologeme as one of the main eschatological mythologemes in modern fiction. For the first time the comparative analysis of “the Messiah” mythologeme is presented on the basis of modern American literary works of different genres and authors. It allows to better understand the peculiarities of the American national identity explication in fiction. The research has been conducted due to the use of the mythological and Structuralist approaches as well as the hermeneutic method of literary analysis. The classification of the Messiahs in Don DeLillo’s works is presented. The following types of the Messiahs can be distinguished: the blessed (insane) Messiahs, the terrorists, the clergymen (sectarians), the politicians, the artists, the Everyman. The material of the research comprises the wide range of modern American novels, namely Gore Vidal’s Messiah, Richard Bach’s Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, Cynthia Ozyck’s The Messiah of Stockholm, Daniel Biskar’s The New Messiah, Henry Baum’s The American Book of the Dead, S.L. Battle’s Insane Messiah, Don DeLillo’s Americana, Cosmopolis, Falling Man, Mao II, Point Omega. “The Messiah” mythologeme is closely connected with “the Apocalypse” mythologeme. The 9/11 events served as an impulse for a change of the American worldview paradigm: confidence in eternal efflorescence turned into self-criticism and condemnation of the government. The image of the messiah in DeLillo’s works is not trivial. This author considers the problem of the messianic American culture much deeper than his colleagues.
