Ювілеї як форма комеморативних практик у середовищі української ліберально-демократичної еліти на початку ХХ ст.: внесок Сергія Єфремова

Abstract

Метою статті є аналіз публіцистичних, мемуарних і наукових текстів Сергія Олександровича Єфремова (1876–1939) – фундатора національної журналістики, видатного історика літератури й громадських рухів, академіка ВУАН – як важливого джерела щодо відтворення процесу підготовки ювілейних свят і реакції українського суспільства на подібну форму комеморації. Авторка статті доводить, що у фокусі уваги С. Єфремова як суспільного діяча й публіциста повсякчас перебували явища й події, які розглядались провідниками українського руху як засоби національної маніфестації й демонстрації здобутків української культури перед “світом імперій” (ювілей Д. Мордовця, “свято Котляревського в Полтаві”, ювілей М. Лисенка, ювілей І. Нечуя-Левицького). Свята й ювілеї трактуються в даному контексті як елементи “винайдення традиції” та творення “місць пам’яті”, необхідні складові «українського проекту» на перетині ХІХ–ХХ ст. Зазначається, що однією з форм ушанування видатних діячів та вікопомних подій, у яких брав участь С. Єфремов, було видання колективних праць (так, із нагоди ювілею “Енеїди” І. Котляревського було видано антологію “Вік” та альманах “На вічну пам’ять Котляревському”). Аналіз публіцистичних текстів С. Єфремова здійснено на підставі методології історичної й колективної пам’яті.

In the nineteenth century – the “century of nationalism” – Europe celebrated the historical anniversaries. For the peoples (ethnic groups), who underwent a transformation “from peasant to nation” into a new era, the anniversary became an instrument of national self-identification and became a means of forming collective and historical memory. An important source for the reproduction of the process of preparation of anniversary celebrations and the reaction of Ukrainian society to this form of commemoration are the texts of Sergіі Yefremov (1876–1939) – the founder of national journalism, a prominent historian of literature and public movements, academician of the VUAN. The author of the article argues that the focus of S. Yefremov's attention as a public figure and publicist were always the phenomena and events that were considered by the Ukrainian movement as a means of national manifestation and demonstration of the achievements of Ukrainian culture before the “world of empires” (anniversary of D. Mordovets, “Kotliarevsky’s anniversary” in Poltava, the anniversary of M. Lysenko, the anniversary of I. Nechui-Levitskyi). Holidays and anniversaries are interpreted in this context as elements of the “invention of tradition” and the creation of “places of memory” as necessary components of the “Ukrainian project” at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is noted that one of the forms of commemoration of prominent figures and digging events, in which S. Yefremov participated, was the publication of collective works. For example, on the occasion of the anniversary of Kotliarevsky’s “Aeneid”, an anthology “Vik” (“Age”) and almanac “In everlasting memory Kotliarevsky” was published. The analysis of S. Yefremov’s journalistic texts is based on the methodology of historical and collective memory and allows to trace the growing interest of the Ukrainian liberal-democratic elite to the construction of “places of memory” at the turning points of history.
