The Ukrainian-Moldovan diplomas are handwritten legal documents from the territory
of the Moldavian Principality, which are the reliable source of studying the history of the
Ukrainian language of the 14-th –15-th centuries, as the Old-Ukrainian written-literary
language has been for a long time the official language of Moldavian state.
The lexical-semantic group «Name of relationship», which is represented in the
Ukrainian-Moldovan diplomas of the 14-th – 15-th centuries, since they often dealt with
various cases between persons related by kindred relations, is analyzed in this study.
The structural, lexical-semantic and etymological analysis of the names of relationship,
certified in Ukrainian-Moldovan diplomas of the 14-th–15-th centuries, is the aim of this
article. Selected and analyzed material allows concluding that the lexical-semantic group
«Name of relationship» is a complex lexical semantic structure that contains a number of
smaller lexical-semantic structures and there is a close semantic relationship between its
elements. By the origin the lexeme of the proto-Slavic ancient times constitute an absolute
majority among the lexemes to denote kindred relations; Romans and Old-Slavs happen
among the borrowings; most of the names of kinship, notarized in the documents of the
Moldovan offices, are present in modern Ukrainian language (literary and dialectal).
