The deformation and fracture of structures under impulsive loading of a shock or explosive nature is predicted on the basis of equations of state of the material which are applicable within a broad range of strain rates. Governing equations of state for polycrystalline metals in the strain-rate range 10⁻³- 10⁴ sec⁻¹ were derived in [1]. The present work studies the validity of these equations on the basis of a comparison with experimental data for aluminum and its alloys at high strain rates.
