The exogenous salicylic acid (SA) action on the salt resistance of wheat plantlets is studied. SA (1μM) increased the content, of peroxide compounds proline, and soluble carbohydrates in roots and (to a lesser degree) in propagules. Thus, the salt resistance of plantlets increased. All SA effects were levelled by an antioxidant ionol (butylhydroxytoluene). A conclusion is drawn that reactive oxygen forms are the messengers in the induction of plants' defense reactions to a salt stress by SA.
