A model system for the investigation of a hidden chromosome instability in somatic human cells by means of bleomycin testing mutagenic exposure in vitro is elaborated. Optimal terms of the treatment by bleomycin of human peripheral blood lymphocytes culture (late post-synthetic G2 phase of mitotic cycle) as well as optimal concentrations of bleomycin (0.05 аnd 5.0 μg/ml) for the evaluation of human chromosomes sensitivity to mutagenic exposure in vitro are suggested. It is shown that the main criterion of chromosomes sensitivity to bleomycin exposure must be the total frequency of chromosome aberrations (but not aberrant metaphases). With the help of modifying “G2-bleomycin sensitivity assay”, the investigation of hidden chromosomes instability in 9 healthy donors is fulfilled. Three hypersensitive persons had been identified that can be considered as the genetically caused phenomenon.

It is established that α-tocopherol does not play the main role in the protection of rat thymo-cytes from damaging by menadione - generated superoxide that calls into question its ability to prevent oxidative stress. Efficiency of a predecessor of the glutatione synthesis, N-acetyl-L-cysteine, in the given model testifies to involving other antioxidative protection systems in this process.

For forest-grown trees of two Acer species (A. platanoides, shade-tolerant, and A. tataricum, moderately shade-tolerant), we studied 13 morphological and 5 photochemical foliage traits across two crown locations (bottom and top). The comparison of the species indicates that the specific leaf mass, specific leaf area, specific water content, stomatal density, stomatal area, and stomatal width respond to the leaf crown location in a similar manner in both species, and the intracrown plasticity is statistically indistinguishable across both species for the leaf area and petiole length. Chlorophyll fluorescence traits (F′v/F′m, qP, qN, ø PSII) in leaves from the bottom and top of crowns are similar in both species under lower photon flux densities (40 and 180 μmol mˉ²sˉ¹). The more effective functioning of the photosynthetic apparatus in the moderately shade-tolerant species as compared to the shade-tolerant one is found at higher photon flux densities (350 and 700 μmol mˉ²sˉ¹) that suggests a higher resistan to photoinhibition in A. tataricum foliage.

The zinc content in cells can serve as an indicator of their functional state. It is shown that zinc concentrations in hippocampal neurons and pancreatic B-cells are descreased after glucose and pilocarpine injections and are increased under starvation, immobilization, and adrenaline and prednisolone injection. The data obtained indicate a functional connection between hippocampus and pancreas insular apparatus.
